David Gilmour está envolvido no processo de lançamento de um novo disco do Pink Floyd, The Endless River, mas isso não quer dizer que ele não planeje um novo álbum solo..
O músico revelou em entrevista à Rolling Stone EUA que está trabalhando em um novo disco solo, e que ele deve sair em 2015.
Sobre o sucessor de On An Island (2006), ele comentou:
"Está tudo indo bem. Há alguns esboços que não estão acabados, e alguns deles serão iniciados a partir do zero. Ainda há alguns meses de trabalho. Espero lançar o disco no ano que vem."
Para divulgar o trabalho, Gilmour ainda revelou que “pretende fazer uma turnê de um homem velho, com datas reduzidas, não algo como 200 apresentações”.
Ao falar em turnê, inclusive, ele disse que seria inviável fazer uma com o Pink Floyd para divulgar o novo disco, já que sem o falecido tecladista Rick Wright isso seria “impossível”.
The Endless River, aliás, é muito provavelmente o último disco da banda, já que Gilmour revelou que “tudo que há de bom está nesse álbum,” e que o restante do material que a banda ainda tem gravado é “de segunda”, o que não seria suficiente para um novo registro.
Em outra passagem da entrevista, Gilmour falou sobre Roger Waters e como sua participação no novo álbum do Pink Floyd também não aconteceria:
“Por que alguém na Terra pensa que o que fazemos agora teria algo a ver com ele é um mistério para mim. Roger se cansou de estar em um grupo pop. Ele está acostumado a ser a única força criativa da sua carreira. O pensamento de que ele entraria em algo que tem algum tipo de democracia, ele não é bom com isso. Além disso, eu tinha trinta e poucos anos quando Roger deixou a banda. Tenho 68 agora. É mais que metade de uma vida de distância. Não temos mais quase nada em comum”.
Vale lembrar que Roger Waters irritado, publicou uma mensagem no Facebook recentemente dizendo que não tinha nenhum tipo de relação com o projeto, aparentemente tão surpreso quanto Gilmour com a “confusão” de algumas pessoas.

Rolling Stone ... a new Gilmour solo record. "It's coming along very well," he says. "There are some sketches that aren't finished, and some of them will be started again. There's a few months' work in it yet. I'm hoping to get it out this following year. Then I'm hoping to do an old man's tour, not a 200-date sort of thing."
Gilmour could easily fill arenas, but he plans to play smaller venues, similar to what he did on his most recent tour, in 2006. "There haven't been many discussions about the tour," he says. "But places like Radio City Music Hall sound like the right sort of vibe for me."
As for Mason, you get the feeling he would be happy to go on tour tomorrow. "If David resigns, that leaves me in total control of Pink Floyd," he says. "I'll go out on the road playing the entirety of Dark Side of the Moon, just the drum parts. It'll be quite dull. Please know that I'm joking."
Still, the drummer refuses to give up hope that Gilmour will change his mind one day. "I believe when I'm dead and buried," he says, "my tombstone will read: 'I'm not entirely sure the band's over.'"
As for possibly getting back to work with ex-Floyd member Roger Waters, he said, “I wouldn’t rule anything out, but the likelihood of it being anything more than one little charity show is very, very remote.”
All this points to the idea that The Endless River could be the last we ever really hear of Pink Floyd. Although, Nick Mason did tell RS, “If David resigns, that leaves me in total control of Pink Floyd. I’ll go out on the road playing the entirety of Dark Side of the Moon, just the drum parts,” he quipped. “It’ll be quite dull.
Mason continued, “Please know that I’m joking. I believe when I’m dead and buried, my tombstone will read: ‘I’m not entirely sure the band’s over.’”
"Eu estou realmente aproveitando minha vida (atual) e minha música. Não há espaço para o Pink Floyd. A ideia de fazer mais coisas (com o Pink Floyd) me faz enlouquecer em calafrios", disse Gilmour bastante sincero ao falar à Rolling Stone sobre o futuro do Pink Floyd.
